Week 3 - Name Tag
Using SketchUp for Schools
Table of Contents
Task: Make a name tag to 3-D print.
Memorial has several 3-D printers. Your task this week is to make a name tag in SketchUp and then export it as an STL file ready for slicing and printing.
Specifications:
Delete the Sketchup character (ie. Catherine, Sophie etc.)
Save to your "Computer Graphics" folder with the filename of your username, preferred color, and "Nametag." Example:
cbright92_Yellow_Nametag
Username Color Description
The corners of the name tag must be rounded.
There must be a border around the edge that sticks up as much as the letters.
One end of the name tag must have a hole in it no larger than 3/8 inch (0.375", 10mm)
Your first and/or last name on one side of the name tag. 3D Text needs to be joined to the nametag with the Outer Shell tool.
The name tag needs to be a group with one watertight solid shape. Check that your name tag is a solid with the Entity Info tool. If not, problems can often be found and fixed with the Solid Inspector.
The keychain can be no longer than 3 inches, no wider than 2 inches, and no thicker than 1/2 inch including lettering. (3" x 2" x 0.5" = 76mm x 51mm x 13mm)
Do a final check to see:
The nametag is a Solid Group or Solid Component according to the Entity Info tool.
The text has been joined to the base using the Outer Shell tool.
There is nothing else in the file but the nametag using the Zoom Extents tool.
The nametag is within the dimensions of 3" x 2" x 0.5".
Have your teacher check your nametag. After being checked, download and export an STL file to turn-in to Canvas.
10. Slice in Makerbot Print and Export to a USB Drive.
