Welcome to Mr. Bright's website at Memorial Middle School! If you came to this site by clicking on a lot of links or typing a horrendously long internet address, you can easily get back to these pages by typing "Bright in Science" into Google search.
The STEAM tab has the beginning of class slides for Memorial's Maker Lab class. Many of Memorial's other Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math (STEAM) enrichment resources are here as well.
The Computer Graphics tab contains all the class assignments and up-to-date instructions for class. Assignments are submitted to Canvas after being checked by Mr. Bright in class.
The Career Exploration tab contains class expectations and useful links for the career options and technologies available in the lab. This class uses the lms.paxpat.com Learning Management System (LMS) rather than Canvas for most career modules.
GAPS Maker Lab Explorations is a separate website containing educational materials shared by GAPS Middle Schools.
The Lego Robotics Archive contains information and links about Memorial's many FLL teams.
The Science 8 tab takes you to the latest class slides, assignments, objectives, Warm-ups, and helpful links. The 8th Science Archive tab on the menu bar along the top of this page includes links, assignments, keywords, and warm-up questions used through different units of the curriculum over the years. The Standards page shows how the NGSS standards are bundled in the district. The Sci Links page contains links to simulations, interactives, videos, and tutorials relevant to middle school science.

Usually, this website has the most current information. The Canvas LMS has learning content and ways to submit assignments online. You must be logged into the District Email for the following Canvas links:
Career Explorations - lms.paxpat.com is more often used than Canvas.

Advisory
Success requires following class expectations. Students should:
follow the three school-wide rules to be Safe, be Responsible and be Respectful.
update your planner at the beginning of class.
be prepared with binder, homework and pencils each day.
Maker's Lab and Career Explorations have binders that will stay in-class. Activity sheets and assignments will be submitted through the binder, Canvas, and LMS.PAXPAT.COM.
avoid bringing any distracting objects to your learning area (such as rubber bands, toy skateboards, candy etc.)
Grading Scale F: 0%-59% D: 60-69% C: 70-79% B: 80-89% A: 90-100%
There are 3 types of grade standards:
Academic standards measure how well the student understands and can perform with class content. Participation and hard work are not directly measured by academic proficiency.
Effort standards summarize a student’s participation, work ethic, and preparedness.
Citizenship grades measure a student’s success in following class expectations and the three school-wide rules: be safe, be respectful, and be responsible.
At the end of semester an A through F course grade will be determined by a weighted average of Academic (70%) and Effort (30%).
Students are responsible for keeping track of their grades in all classes through the Synergy Portal, which shows a snapshot of the grade book for each class. Keep in mind [[some assignments may take several days to show in the grade book.

Students will have two weeks after the end of a unit to submit late work and retake assessments for that unit.
If an assignment is more than a week late, 20% of the score will be deducted (in other words, a student can still get an 80% on an assignment if they earn full credit and the assignment is a week or more late).
For a test retake, students can only receive up to 90% credit.
Absolutely no late work will be accepted after the end of the nine-week term.
