Lake Joe

[ community, post office (established 5 May 1888 - discontinued 15 May 1914 moved to Athena) ]

 

The Green B. Weaver famiy settled on the Middle Warrior where they operated a farm. Weaver was a contract mail carrier from Athena to Thelma via Lake Joe. Later he was appointed postmaster of Spring Warrior. They were leaders in the establishment of New Hope Methodist Church.

 

Article from The Taylor County Herald, July 21, 1910 - There is lots of fever in this settlement just now. Mr. Henry McDowell and family, and Josh and Frank Ezell and families, spent a few days at the coast last week fishing. Mr. Malcom Donaldson is teaching the Deal School, which started last week. The Baptist minister failed to come to his appointment last third Sunday. Mr. Ely Sealy has been sick for some time and has missed the fever but don't seem to improve fast. T. W. Lamons came down Saturday to see his parents and found them all in bed with fever but they are improving a little. G. B. Weaver is moving his sawmill from Salem to Athena.
