Econfina

[ community, school site ] Econfina School was a one room school in Gibson's Pasture.

Sarah Shiver King and her brothers and sisters lived with their parents at Cooey Island located about 12 miles west of Perry on the Fenholloway River. The youngsters attended Bee Tree Pond School south of Hampton Springs, from 1922-1925. Sarah remembers A. H. Wentworth and Penn Brannen as two of their teachers in the one room school. Later they attended Perry school and Sarah graduated from TCHS in 1933. Sarah took the teachers exam and was certified to teach in county schools. Her first position was at the one room Econfina School in Gibson's Pasture where she taught for two years. She next taught at Pine Grove School.
