Midway Baptist Church

On August 16, 1961, a group met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Aman for prayer services. A decision was made to continue these services and add Sunday services including Sunday school and Training Union.

Soon a request to organize a church was made. On Saturday, September 23, 1961, a new church was formed with the help of Taylor Baptist Association ministers and deacons, including Rev. Alva Horton, Rev. T. D. Lide, Rev. Joe Engel, Rev. F. A. Parker, Rev. J. W. Johnson, Leonard Pridgeon, James Ray Blue and Kenneth Gaskins.

The church called J. W. Johnson as pastor and chose the name “Midway”.

Land was donated by Charlie Aman and a building was started early 1962. It was completed enough by June to have Vacation Bible School. Later an Education building was added, built and paid for by the members. The church is debt free.

In the late 1980’s a Family Life Center was built.

We thank God for his goodness and for the ten pastors who served us and those others, who were sent out.

The above information was provided by Ms. Audrey Johnson, wife of the first pastor Rev. J. W. Johnson.
