A Suggestion
The Herald would suggest to the town council, with the best of motives, that at its next regular meeting, the question of publishing a synopsis of the town laws considered.
It is true, the ordinances are posted which, we suppose, fulfills the requirements of the law, but in justice to our people – county as well as town – the ordinances should be published. The business man has not the time nor the inclination to stand on the street and read the laws, and the men from the county do not take time to read them. If the laws were published in the county paper every man could sit down at his home and read them. As it is many will be made to suffer through ignorance.
In a new country like Taylor county every precaution should be taken to protect the citizen and as having a town incorporated is a “new thing” it devolves upon the officers to throw every safeguard possible around those who comes to Perry to attend to their business.
We trust this suggestion will be carefully considered and acted upon by our town council.

The Teacher’s Association
Editor Herald: In reading the proceedings of the school board last week I saw they had reorganized the Association and all teachers would be forced to attend or lose five dollars. I would like to ask the board one question. How do you expect teachers to take any interest in the Association when they are compelled to attend? Common sense or reason ought to teach them their mistake, and I am fearful that the action of the board will cause the majority of teachers in this county to lose interest in their work in the school room. Who will be to blame? Our school board. Better that the board rescind that order than to do the county an injustice. The children should be educated.
I would like to know where they get such a law anyway. They simply can’t find any law to that effect. It seems very suspicious that they got their authority from Teddy. And why is the board so anxious to forfeit five dollars from the teacher’s salary? I don’t know unless it is to raise a fund to get Teddy down here to bear hunt with ‘em. So, teachers stand back!
We know their terms don’t last much longer and then we will make another choice. Teacher
