Blockhuiskop

Location: Silvermine South, south of Kleintuinkop OSM map

Overview: A rather nondescript looking buttress projecting out over the Nordhoek valley, but in fact has many interesting chimneys, cracks, nooks and crannies

Key Statistics

Grade & stars: 2 ***

Height gain: 50m to 380m

Time: 4-5 hours

Route Description:

It can be approached from two different directions:

  • From the East up either Echo valley or the Trappies path to Arch Rock

  • From the West directly up the ridge from the Sunbird Center

That's when the fun begins! From the top of Blockhuis, descend down and left through a crack and chimney on the Sunbird side. This leads around Blockhuis, through a narrow slot and out onto a lovely sheltered sunny dell surrounded by pinnacles.

Many return options: Go down past Kleintuinkop, looking carefully for the path that leads back to the Sunbird Center, or return via the Amphitheater and Spes Bona or Echo Valley.
