Hermanus

Hermanus has 4 Nature reserves, 3 of them adjacent with Mountain hikes and ascents of peaks, and are shown on the Trig survey map and google Earth image below. Fernkloof on the left is a Municipal Reserve managed by the Hermanus Botanical Society. Vogelgat in the middle, is a Private reserve and you have to be a member or go as a guest with a member to hike there. This includes climbing in the Maanskynkop Reserve which is owned by Cape Nature who have no access to their reserve except over private property so they are unable to issue public permits. The Walker Bay Reserve is along the coast and is controlled by Cape Nature but as there are no mountain hikes, we do not feature it here at present. OSM map

To ascend the highest and most popular peak, viz Maanskynkop (or old spelling Maanschynkop), you need to go with a member of the private reserve Vogelgat as the best and easiest path starts there and crosses into the Maanschynkop Reserve portion.
