Agatha's Gully
Location: Constantia Nek on the Orange Kloof side of the Constantia Corner.
Overview: Short scramble from Constantia Nek via an obscure hidden gully (top section of Turret gully) that meets up with the Constantia Corner path about two thirds up the ridge.
Route Description:
Start from Constantia Nek and follow the Constantia Corner route up to a rock wall (about 17m high) and a rock step. The Agatha's gully route is a clear descending path going to the left just before the rock wall.
Follow the path, descending through a bushy area with rock walls on your right hand side. After about 7 to 8 minutes you will reach an obscure eroded gully. Traverse along the right hand ledge (exposed!) until in the watercourse.
From here you can either ascend in the gully or on the right-hand bank. Ascend until you reach a path that crosses the gully into a wooded area on it's left hand side. Follow this path onto a nek overlooking Orange Kloof, Just a bit further take a break on your right.
At the top of the pitch aim, for a large rock turret on you left, ascending via a few easy B grade steps. From the top of the turret, scramble along the ridge (with upper sections of the eroded gully on your right) topping out on an open grassy slope. Follow the path up the slope to join the Constantia Corner route about two thirds up.
NOTE: Considerable variation is possible on certain sections of this route, and expect to find beacons (stone cairns) in different directions.
Descent:
Shortest is down Constantia Corner, but more usually (and more fun), continue up the Constantia Corner path past Camel Rock to the Back Table at the Overseers Hut. There are many options from there: Jeep Track, Cecelia Ridge, Nursery Ravine, etc.
