Note: There are two ways to make a new route:

  • Click the three dots chevron of this page in Pages view and duplicate the page. Then drag it to the required position.

  • Duplicate any page at the position were a new route is desired, then edit. The only complication here is editing the Key Statistics table. Either edit the HTML using an online editor such as https://html5-editor.net, or delete the table entirely and replace it with the plain text box above. The later is recommended as in the new Google Sites, tables can only be edited at HTML level.

How to make a route

Some Notes:

The key concept of the new Google Slides is a series of "boxes" laid out on a grid. Everything is in a "box" (text, pictures, slides, embeded code, slides, sheets, forms, charts, etc). Once in a box, the box can be dragged to any location and resized.

The new Google Sites does a pretty good job of figuring out how to place the boxes depending on the screen size, so if laid out on a laptop or desktop screen, it will generally look fine on a Smartphone screen.

If you want to check, there are three Preview options: Large screen, Tablet and Phone. Quick and easy to check how it will look on each device.

Font type:

Google Sites defaults the text in any new text box that is added to Gentium Basic. Fonts are a very personal matter, but we decided these were spindly and unattractive (and don't work as well on a phone), so Mountain Meanders uses Verdana throughout the site. If a page is copied, it will pick up the Verdana font automatically, but if a new text box is added, it will default to Gentium Basic. Easy to change...

Saving changes:

The new Google Sites works like Gmail. All additions/changes are instantly and automatically saved as they are typed character by character. However, no changes are published until the big bold blue Publish button is clicked on. This gives one an opportunity to review changes before going live.
