Swartboskam

Location: Jonkershoek, starting at the parking for Swartboskloof. OSM map

Overview: A long exposed ridge parallel to Swartboskloof. Cross country all the way, but ridge is mainly clear of bush.

Route Description:

Follow the Swartboskloof path for about 300m. Where it passes close to the weir, cross over and climb a steep busy bank to gain the ridge. Not pleasant, but not long and once on he ridge the going is a lot easier. Alternatively, take off directly onto the ridge from the road - it may be less bushy.

Follow the line of the ridge all the way up, moving to the right of the first rock step. Higher, one traverses with a rock wall on one's right. At the end of that go up right to small nek and then an ascending traverse around to the left to regain the ridge. Continue to the top of the ridge.

At the top of the ridge drop down onto the Klipspringer Vlakte with many amazing pinnacles, rock formations and lovely pools. Continue 2km up this valley finding the easiest way on either left or right to minimize bush to finally meat the Panorama path near Pic Sans Nom.

Return via Swartboskloof.
