Overview: A long, difficult route with extensive scrambling up a narrow kloof.

Route Description:

Access and parking arrangements have changed from time to time. Enquire locally.

From the parking at Languedoc, proceed up a well marked path to the entrance of the kloof, which at this point looks like a solid rock wall. Enjoy this short section of path - it's the last until the top! Careful careful note of the way as you may be descending in the dusk which happens unexpected early in this deep shady kloof.

Boulder hop on rough terrain up the kloof bearing left towards Devil's Tooth, the pinnacle to the left of Hutchinson Peak (see map). Do not go up to the nek between Devil's Tooth and Hutchinson. Continue scrambling up bearing right to the base of a long sloping rock wall on the left hand side.

Climb this wall on exposed rock with minimal handholds - but it slopes back at an easy angle. Be careful of any loose rock. Exit into the narrow kloof and follow this to the top which brings out on top of the Drakenstein.

Drakenstein Peak, Eikenhof Peak, Dragoon Buttress and Dragoon Peak are within reach (see map) but 100 to 200m higher so add a lot on. Make sure you allow enough time as the descent is the same way and takes almost as long with the continuous boulder hopping taking a toll at the end of a long day.
