Twin Peaks

Sentralekloof

Location: The route starts on the Contour path in the Sentralekloof watercourse (between square tower peak and Twins).

Overview: A long route that starts in Sentralekloof and makes use of an extremely long "B" graded gully to reach Twin Peaks.

Route Description:

To reach the route you will have to find you way to contour path between Square Tower Peak and Twins. The route starts in the Sentralekloof watercourse. The Nerinakloof and Sentralekloof watercourses are very close to each other, be sure to take the right-hand one.

Ascend Sentralekloof until it looks like the ravine comes to a dead end. Traverse out to the right onto the obvious grass slope. The start of this traverse is well cairned, so look out for a set of cairns close together. Continue to traverse all around to the front of the mountain.

Here you should enter an extremely long, and steep rocky gully. Some sections of the gully requires B / B+ grade scrambling. At some point the gully forces you to the right. If you look out there should be an easy traverse out of the gully and onto a rocky section, which is easy scrambling to a neck at the top of the gully.

From the neck you should head in the direction of the upper part of Sentralekloof, first decending and then doing multiple descends and ascends of short grassy sections. During these sections stay close to the rock face but do NOT attempt climb up the narrow gully on your right! After a short scramble you should enter the upper section of Sentralekloof, which is ascended to the neck between the Twin Peaks. From here the path the either peak is obvious.

Descend:

The most obvious ascend it down Langrivierkloof. You can also follow the watershed in the direction of Botmaskop and descend via the Nerinakloof route. This route makes use of a short upper section of Vensterkloof, a rocky gully known as "Bakoond", Nerinakloof, and a steep gully left of Nerinakloof known as "Sit-Sit".
