Cederberg Rooiberg Trail

Location: Southern Cederberkg/Karoo, from the Esterhuizen's Nuwerust Farm Restcamp on the Matjiesrivier/Ceres road.

Overview:This 12km, 5-6hr hike starts at the Esterhuizen's Nuwerust Restcamp, and takes a scrambling line under the impressive Rooiberg cliffs where rock climbers can enjoy some free and some bolted  climbs. The path continues steeply up around the far corner to climb above the cliff,  then crosses the easy but lengthy plateau and descends via a rocky ridge into a gully and slope which should be treated with care. On reaching the Brandkraal river sandy cattle tracks are followed on the North bank past cave formations and through some unfortunate invasive alien vegetation to return to the farm.
