We Wish You a Merry Pensic

We Wish You a Merry Pensic

Copyright 2005 by Jeff Suzuki

Pensic, for those who don't know, is one of the major gatherings of the SCA, where you and 10,000 of your closest friends descent just north of Pittsburgh. It is effectively a temporary town, and with all such towns has a marketplace of much renown; it is said you can go to Pensic with nothing but a credit card, and completely equip yourself in all things medieval. (The Miscellany is Cariadoc's Miscellany, much renown in the SCA, while "CA" is the Compleat Anachronist, a series of booklets that discuss many things medieval).

The tune to this is, of course, "We Wish you a Merry Christmas", which has been called one of the most banal yet strangely popular songs. It is said that the tune and words are 16th century, though in fact it falls into the vague "traditional" dating.

We wish you a Merry Pensic We wish you a Merry Pensic We wish you a Merry Pensic And a raucous Great War! Good tidings we bring, to you and the kings Good tidings of Pensic and a raucous Great War! Now bring us a bag of cubebs Now bring us a bag of cubebs Now bring us a bag of cubebs And some galangale too! Alternate Verse One Now bring us a bolt of linen Now bring us a bolt of linen Now bring us a bolt of linen And some silk floss too! Alternate Verse Two Now bring us a pair of gauntlets Now bring us a pair of gauntlets Now bring us a pair of gauntlets And a basket hilt too! Alternate Verse Three Now bring us a Miscellany Now bring us a Miscellany Now bring us a Miscellany And a CA or two!
