To some extent, writing lyrics is a lot like poetry. That being said, I'm aware that I'm not a great poet. (Go ahead, say it..."Your lyrics are pretty lame, too") Seriously: one difference is that it's easy to take lyrics, remove the music, and have a poem. However, the poem that you end up with is not necessarily one of the classical forms: for example, most of my songs are in iambic tetrameter set in quatrains. Here are the poems I've written.
