He'll Be Riding Eight Legged Horses

Shortly after the birth of our twins (I've always wanted to say that...) I rewrote some children's songs so they were more...interesting. They're still good children's songs, it's just that they're not quite as banal as most children's songs are. This one, for example, gives you some basic grounding in Norse mythology. The song is sung to the tune of "She'll be coming round the mountain."

He'll be riding eight-legged horses when it comes, He'll be riding eight-legged horses when it comes, He'll be riding eight-legged horses, That's Odin with his forces, He'll be riding eight-legged horses when it comes. He'll be looking for his hammer when it comes, He'll be looking for his hammer when it comes, He'll be looking for his hammer, That's Thor and his Mjolnir He'll be looking for his hammer when it comes. They'll be singing as a chorus when it comes, They'll be singing as a chorus when it comes, They'll be singing as a chorus, That's Nine Valkyries for us They'll be singing as a chorus when it comes. Oh he'll turn a traitor to'em when it comes, Oh he'll turn a traitor to'em when it comes, Oh he'll turn a traitor to'em, That Loki spreading ruin, Oh he'll turn a traitor to'em when it comes. Oh the giants yell and holler when it comes, Oh the giants yell and holler when it comes, Oh the giants yell and holler As they march upon Valhalla Oh the giants yell and holler when it comes. He'll be wrapped around the whole world when it comes, He'll be wrapped around the whole world when it comes, He'll be wrapped around the whole world That's the Midgard serpent uncurled He'll be wrapped around the whole world when it comes. The Wolf Fenris will have free limbs when it comes, The Wolf Fenris will have free limbs when it comes, The Wolf Fenris will have free limbs He'll spit out the hand that fed him The Wolf Fenris will have free limbs when it comes. All the Eddas will have been sung when it comes, All the Eddas will have been sung when it comes, All the Eddas will have been sung By the Gotterdamerung All the Eddas will have been sung when it comes.
