Bester's Telepaths

Bester's Telepaths

This is another song I wrote after our twins were born, though it is not a children's song. There's nothing particularly inappropriate here (some mild profanity that wouldn't even get a PG-13 rating); it's just that the intended audience is for fans of one of the very few intelligent shows on television: Babylon Five. (Briefly put: I call it an intelligent show because one of the fundamental premises is that problems can't be solved in 45 minutes plus four commercial breaks) The tune is "Barrett's Privateers" (Stan Winston)

Oh the year was 2257 How I wish I was in Psi Corps now! When a letter from Mars came down the chain To the baddest group I'd ever seen Chorus God damn them all! I was told, We'd cruise the stars for blips and rogues We would fire some guns, kick some ass! I'm a frozen teep under cryo glass, The last of Bester's telepaths. Oh Alfred Bester culled the ranks How I wish I was in Psi Corps now! For twenty brave souls, all rank P-12 Who would make for him the Black Omegas, Chorus The Black Omegas were the best of the best How I wish I was in Psi Corps now! The Corps is Mom, the Corps is Dad It's the best damned job I'd ever had, Chorus Cruising one day in hyperspace How I wish I was in Psi Corps now! When a ship like a spider from hell came abeam In my mind's eye I could hear it scream, Chorus The Shadow's first shot took out half the squad How I wish I was in Psi Corps now! The rest they dissected or froze away Saving us for a later day, Chorus Their doctors did a thing or two, How I wish I was in Psi Corps now! The neural implants they put in me A ship's CPU they made me be, Chorus The Great War came to an end at last How I wish I was in Psi Corps now! But they couldn't take out the tech in my brain So the doc said 'Frozen he'll remain!' Chorus So here I am in some unknown year How I wish I was in Psi Corps now! It's been many years since they froze me away I hope I'll be defrosted some day, Chorus
