Test Tiles

Purpose:

• To create four equally formed tiles

• To demonstrate the effects of layering glaze colors

• To develop glazing skills

• To contribute to a test tile wall for current and future ceramics students

Reflection:

Some aspects of a ceramics piece that show an artist's attention to detail could be the application of glaze. One way I showed quality craftsmanship was I made sure that my tiles were even in both size and thickness. I also made sure to not glaze over the edges of my tiles. When fired the glaze would be darker in spots where there were more layers and lighter in spots with fewer layers. When mixing the glazed depending on what colors you had I could do multiple different things. With my tiles, the colors didn't mix that well and the color didn't change. With some other tiles you can see the colors mixing to make new colors and other colors would layer on top of each other to create a cool effect.
