Reflection
I chose to work with acrylics mainly because of the variety of bold colors and the ability to create sharp lines helping define my composition. Overall, the shape and color of the buildings in my piece are very defined and prominent while not dragging too much attention away from my focal points. The colors in the left-side mural are bold, which helps convey that it is my piece's main focal point.
With this piece, I wanted to explore how I could use street art to convey a message to a community. The message I was trying to convey is that no one is perfect and imperfections are beautiful. The purpose of having the wall of tags on the right is to show how streets can be both productive like the left side mural but also unproductive as shown by all the tags. This helps drive the idea that street art can be used as a vessel for an artist to show something to their community without having the illegality of graffiti.
Moving forward, I am focused more on how I can portray messages through street art. Given that, for my next piece, I plan to use a photo of an area around my town where there could be a piece of street art. Utilizing that space imagining how I could use street art to represent that specific location.
