Purpose:
Use a 3” x 3” post-it as a template to create a multiple-sided, lidded box out of slabs. Tie together the different sides and lid of the box with connected shapes.
Reflection:
The main idea of my box is connected to the out doors. I started with knowing I wanted to put a dragonfly on my box and I started thinking of ideas that connected to that. Things like a tree, flowers, a net, and a leaf for the handle. With the glaze I knew I wanted to keep the colors very mellow and have a few spots with great pops of vibrant colors. Those spots are the flowers, the tree, and some of the net. For the more mellow colors I used a combo of a transparent pearl and turquoise for the sky and emerald green for the grass. Both those ended up being nice and light and didnt drag your attention away from the etching and carvings.
I think overall it whent well both forming wise and glazing. The forming went very smooth and I spent a lot of time making sure everything was even and lined up good. Unfortunately the bottom part of the lid came off not alouing the lid to stay on properly and a bit of the lid itself cracked off. With the help of some glaze those problems were mostly fixed. For the glazings things went smoother then I thoughts. Thats because I tried something new for the sky, I started with a layer of transparent pearl then dabbed turquoise over it hoping something cool would happen and it ended up looking very nice. I think I would do this again it was fun and I would make sure not to make silly mistakes that cause cracks and fragments.
