Board, Mod Podge, Acrylic paint
11" x 14"
Layered mod podge over an image and painted it with acrylic paint
The main idea of this piece was to take an activity that brings my community together and I chose Ice skating on the town pond. With that idea in mind, I knew I wanted to work on an actual image of a spot near the pond. Once I chose a spot I came up with an idea that reflected the activity.
After I chose an area in my town where I wanted my mural to be I took a photo and began to come up with a composition. I started by imagining aspects of the pond I wanted to include. Then using those aspects for my composition, I chose to have two skeletons on the pond one playing hockey and the other skating waving at each other. Origanly I was struggling to fit everything in the blocked-out area. Once I started working on the piece the image I had printed was larger than what I was working on during my planning. This allowed me to include a lot more details than I had originally planned.
Moving forward I'm going to focus on areas where I can “put” street art and how it can impact a community. This is what I focused on with SI #4 and I enjoyed thinking about how the artist's message impacts a viewer and what that message represents. I plan for my next piece to work with shapes and colors and how I can use them to represent a message by the artist.
