Purpose:
Learning how to use a large range of motion and starting to work on a larger scale.
Using gesture drawing to capture the essence of an object.
Reinforcing observational drawing skills.
Exploring the use of new mediums.
The first thing I tried to do for both the practice piece and the final piece was to get down the shape of the nest. The practice definitely helped me get into the right mind space of just being free with the lines and not really worrying about the small details first. I started by drawing in a circular motion and making a base for the whole painting/drawing. After I had the shape I started to form it more and add volume to places that needed it. After that, I began to focus more on the more minor details like the little branches that hang out from the side and other smaller lines in the nest. At the very end was when I added the white highlights to some of the branches and that really helped give my piece a 3d look.
