Markers, Paper,
My main focus was to create a poster, which was easiest by using markers. Markers have a nice color palette and also giving a poster feel. I chose to make an initial sketch on a separate piece of paper to allow myself to make changes without altering the final paper. Once the initial sketch was done I transferred it onto my final piece with a light box. Once I had my sketch on my final piece of paper I filled in all the colors. After finishing the piece I created a background by using my computer to cut out the words and characters and pasting them onto a page I had created a pattern.
For this piece, I wanted to try and mimic the work of street artists who mainly use stickers and posters. Like my other pieces, I worked with lettering and a character to drive a main message but unlike my other pieces, I had to focus on how to condense my ideas into one composition that could work if placed anywhere. First I decided that I wanted to focus on a poster style referencing the Uncle Sam poster. I then came up with the text that I wanted to place on said poster along with a complimentary character. Using the Uncle Sam poster I then created my composition for my poster.
Moving forward this SI was helpful for me as I learned how to better portray my ideas in a more condensed space. I'm not exactly sure of an idea for my next piece but I think I want to create a larger-scale mural, like what I've been doing with the photos but on a larger scale. Maybe something similar to the Mill mural but I have to do some more thinking.
