Essential Question: What are the necessary skills to create a convincing still life drawing?
Purpose:
To create a still-life drawing that demonstrates understanding of angles & ellipses in perspective, along with using a chosen and conscious mark-making technique to describe form;
To understand value by creating a good range of values between black & white to help make the objects appear 3D;
To demonstrate quality craftsmanship and good composition skills in a drawing.
Artists Studied: Henry Moore, Giorgio Morandi, Vincent van Gogh, Winslow Homer, John Whalley
Reflection
The types of marks are lines that vary in length and thickness. I used hatching, which is Henry Moore's style. I made value by differing the thickness of the line and how spread out the lines were.
In the pre-instructional to create value I used my finger to smudge the pencil and in the final still life I used lines to show value. I learned how to use different technics like hatching and cross-hatching to create value in my drawings with lines.
Proportion, without proportion it looks weird and things don't match up smoothly with each other. Perspective is also important, If you're looking at a still life a certain way all the objects all the lines should match up with a point. Value is important to show the size and volume of an object. Using techniques like hatching or cross hatching is also important as it creates value in drawings.
