Medium: Ink, charcoalÂ
I started by using ink to get the main shape and expression of the nest and also to get some nice value down. After I had the general gesture down I started to refine the shape more and add specific sticks that my eyes were focused on and started to add more value to give a sense of depth. During this time I moved to charcoal because I used the ink to create a skeleton of the nest and some of the more prominent twigs. I used the charcoal to capture some of the smaller twigs and branches and to add smaller areas of value between the branches. I end by layering white and black charcoal over each other to finish off the shape and give the piece even more depth
