Tech Interactive Challenge
Tech Interactive Challenge Overview
The Tech Challenge is a 35-year-old signature program of The Tech that invites teams of students in Grades 4-12 to use the engineering design process to solve a real-world problem. Participants spend months collaborating and becoming deeply engaged in the challenge while documenting their progress and designs. The program culminates in an inspiring two-day showcase in April where teams put their solutions to the test in front of judges.
Cosmic Quest - 2023-2024 Challenge
SPACE – the possibilities are limitless!
From figuring out how to redirect asteroids to finding planets that could support life, scientists are always collecting information about our universe. Scientists are on a quest to learn more about a distant planet and its largest moon. Can your team deliver fragile, but highly important supplies to this moon’s surface?
The challenge: Deliver multiple payloads to different locations.
2023-2024 Cosmic Quest Challenge Calendar:
This year’s showcase will be in-person! Final Showcase will take place April 29, and April 30, 2024 at South Hall, 435 S. Market Street in Downtown San Jose.
High School Show Case is on SUNDAY, APRIL 30 - Grades 9-12:Morning

- 2023 - Tech Interactive Challenge - Surviving the Storm
The scenario: Severe weather ahead! Storms are getting worse bringing strong winds that create danger and destruction. Can you use your engineering skills to defend against high wind conditions?
The Challenge: Build a structure to protect vulnerable objects from extreme winds.
The Tech wants to acknowledge the significant destruction and suffering being caused by the 2022 hurricane season. The Tech Challenge was created to introduce students to engineering—especially its invaluable role in solving real-world problems. This summer we designed a new challenge for 2023 that explores how we can use engineering to provide protection against high winds. We hope that youth can learn empowering lessons during this year’s program about how the engineering skills they develop can improve the outcomes of future extreme weather events.
