Entry/Exit Tickets, Current Events, Technology, Cool Stuff To Write About
A short answer writing assignment and typical Entry/Exit Ticket assignment will be graded in the following manner. These assignments are typically work done in the first 15-20 min or the last 15-20 min of class. The expectation nis that these are going to be 100-200 + words or short answers about a current event or technology topic. This work is almost always graded at a 100 point scale and submitted through Google Classroom, or is a link on the class blog,
The witting assignment is graded based on thoughtful answers to questions posed.
A to A- Work
100-90 points: Relates the topic and subject to their personal experience. Shows an understanding to their life experience. Addresses the question. States a relevant, justifiable answer. Presents arguments in a logical order. Uses acceptable style and grammar (no errors).Demonstrates an accurate and complete understanding of the question. Backs conclusions with data and justifications. Uses 2 or more ideas, examples and/or arguments that support the answer
Topic Sentence & Supporting Details: 40%
Interesting, original topic sentence, reflecting thought and insight; focused on one interesting main idea. Cites specific evidence from relevant portions or text. No errors in text-based facts.
Interesting, concrete and descriptive examples and details with explanations that relate to the topic.
Demonstrates sophisticated understanding of relevant passages in context of whole text or excerpt.
Thoughtful, logical progression of supporting examples; Mature transitions between ideas
Interpretation and Personalization: 30%
Interprets document in own words, goes beyond literal meaning to conceptual and historical significance of text. Interesting, concrete and descriptive examples and details with explanations that relate to the topic.
Shows substantial knowledge of historical context of document
Mechanics, Style & Understanding of the Assignment: 30%
Understands and responds to all questions.
Consistent standard Language usage, spelling, and punctuation. No errors
Appropriate tone, distinctive voice; pleasing variety in sentence structure; Vivid diction, precise word choices.
B to B- Work
89-80 points: Addresses the question. States a relevant, justifiable answer. Presents arguments in a logical order. Uses acceptable style and grammar (no errors). Demonstrates an accurate and complete understanding of the question. Backs conclusions with data and justifications. Uses 1 or more ideas, examples and/or arguments that support the answer
Topic Sentence & Supporting Details: 40%
Clearly stated topic sentence presents one main idea. Cites evidence from relevant portions or text. No more than one error in text-based facts.
Examples and details relate to the topic and some explanation is included.
Demonstrates accurate understanding of relevant passages in context of whole text or excerpt.
Details are arranged in a logical progression; appropriate transitions.
Interpretation and Personalization: 30%
Interprets document in own words, goes beyond literal meaning to conceptual and historical significance of text. Examples and details relate to the topic and some explanation is included.
Shows some knowledge of historical context of document.
Mechanics, Style & Understanding of the Assignment: 30%
Understands and responds to all or most questions
Some errors, but none major, in usage, spelling, or punctuation. (1-2)
Appropriate tone; Clear sentences with varied structures; Effective diction.
C to C- Work
79 -70 Points: Doesn’t address the questions explicitly, although does so tangentially. States a relevant and justifiable answer.Presents arguments in a logical order. Uses acceptable style and grammar (1-2 errors). Demonstrates an accurate but only adequate understanding of the question. Doesn’t back conclusions with data. Uses only one idea to support the answer. Less thorough than above.
Topic Sentence & Supporting Details: 40%s
Acceptable topic sentence presents one idea. Cites evidence from relevant portions or text. Some errors in text-based facts.
Sufficient number of examples and details that relate to the topic.
Demonstrates mostly accurate understanding of relevant passages in context of whole text or excerpt.
Acceptable arrangement of examples; transitions may be weak.
Interpretation and Personalization: 30%
Some answers may be inconsistent with text taken as a whole. Generally uses own words, though some responses rely too heavily on cited text.
Shows some knowledge of historical context.
Mechanics, Style & Understanding of the Assignment: 30%
Understands and responds to all or most questions
A few errors in usage, spelling, or punctuation (3-4)
Acceptable tone; some variety in sentence structures; Adequate diction and word choices.
Work That Need Improvement
69-60 Points: Doesn’t really address the question. States few relevant answers. Reveals some misconceptions. Is not clearly or logically organized. Errors in grammar and style. Doesn’t demonstrate accurate understanding of question but makes an effort. No evidence to support response to question.
Topic Sentence & Supporting Details: 40%
Missing, invalid, or inappropriate topic sentence; main idea is missing. Evidence either lacking or vague that it does not demonstrate familiarity with text. Several significant errors of fact.
Insufficient, vague, or undeveloped examples.
Understanding vague, inconsistent, or minimal understanding of topic
No discernible pattern of organization; Unrelated details; no transitions.
Interpretation and Personalization: 30%
Some answers may be inconsistent with text taken as a whole. Uses language that is either vague or copied from text without interpretation.
Shows limited knowledge or incorrect knowledge of historical context.
Mechanics, Style & Understanding of the Assignment: 30%
Does not responds to all the questions, and/or misunderstands questions.
Distracting errors in usage, spelling, or punctuation
Inconsistent or Inappropriate tone; Awkward, unclear, or incomplete sentences; Bland diction, poor word choice.
Not Passing Work - Needs To Arrange Some 1-1 Time with Teacher
59-0 points: May have turned in some work, but clearly incomplete. Doesn’t address the question. Has not made an effort to complete the assignment or answer the questions
Did not turn in work
Responds to fewer than half the questions, and/or misunderstands questions.
Evidence either lacking or so vague that it does not demonstrate familiarity with text. Several significant errors of fact.
Understanding vague, inconsistent, or seriously flawed.
Uses language that is either vague or copied from text without interpretation.
Shows no knowledge or incorrect knowledge of Engineering context.
