Let's Light an LED - Lesson/Lab

Breadboard & Series Circuit Introduction

This lesson is about how a bread board works.

You will have an opportunity to sign up for a TinkerCAD account, where you will be able to simulate a breadboard and electronics circuits. You may also have an opportunity to use a real breadboard and build some electronics circuits.

As part of this lesson, you will receive access to a bread board, learn how it works, You will get an LED, Resistor, and some jumper wires. You will build or receive a power adapter and you will connect a 5 volt power supply to your circuit. You will connect a simple series circuit that will include an LED, 220Ω or 330Ω resistor and a push button switch.

Welcome to AC / DC Electronics Fundamentals Lesson 2 - Let's Light an LED - Lesson - Introduction to Breadboards, Circuits, LEDs. In this lesson, you are going to learn about some standard electronic components. Specifically what is, and how does a bread board work? You will be introduced to an LED, a Resistor, and a Push Button Switch.

As part of this lesson & lab, you will create or access your TinkedCAD account.

Then you will have a quick lab to get some hands-on activities Flashing an LED. Then you will complete some more in-depth lessons and labs. Have Fun...

There is not prerequisite knowledge needed.

Prior Knowledge:

No prior knowledge expected - You be you!!!

Resources & Materials Needed:

PC, Laptop or Other device to access the TinkedCAD web application
Each lesson will have specific items needed to complete the labs and tasks

Prerequisites:

No explicit prerequisite course work or coding knowledge is required, but students are expected to have a good understanding of basic computer principles.

Caution & Safety Considerations:

Primer: "Aaron, I can imagine no way in which this thing could be considered anywhere remotely close to safe. All I know is I spent six hours in there and I'm still alive... You still want to do it?"

As with any activity, please make sure you are using appropriate safety equipment. If you are coding, writing, reading, or working a lab, make sure you stand up and stretch every hour or so, Please consider any safety issues connecting to a Raspberry Pi, Arduino, computers and other electronic equipment.

Tinkercad is a free, easy-to-use app for 3D design, electronics, and coding. It's used by teachers, kids, hobbyists, and designers to imagine, design, and make anything!

Humans and even other intelligent animals innately understand the concept of Whole Numbers. We can clearly understand the concept of "How Many" when we look at these two piles of Jelly Beans.

We may not immediately know how many beans are in the big pile, but we absolutely know that there are way more than 5.

And to find out we can easily start at 1 and then count each... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14... 93. That's what I think... I think there are 93.
