Hinduism: Some Cardinal Principles

N. Narayana Pillai

The famous Gayathri Manthra of the Hindus is addressed to the Supreme Being to Stimulate Our intelligence so that WE may realize the Supreme Truth. So does the Santhi Mantra ‘Lokah Samastah Sukino Bhavantu’ seeks the well-being of all. The kernel of Hindu philosophical thought is the recognition of Atman as the imperishable self luminous principle in all jives and the knowledge that it is essentially one and the same as the cosmic consciousness. This is what Paul Deussen the great German Philosopher has noted as ‘it is for the first time the original thinkers of the Upanishads, to their immortal honor, found it when recognized our Atman our innermost being, same as Brahman, the inmost Being of Universal nature and all phenomenon.” This knowledge gives the Hindus, the guidance of their way of life and ethics and attitude to other beings. The discussion in the book is based on the revelation of various Upanishads. Seventeen various topics including ethics, Karma, God, Varnasrama Dharma, and women’s position in society are discussed in the book. Author: Dr. N.
