Este apartado está diseñado para mejorar la inteligibilidad oral del alumnado de Educación Secundaria y Bachillerato. El objetivo no es adquirir un acento nativo, sino pronunciar con claridad, corrección y seguridad, especialmente en tareas de speaking y comprensión oral.
Pronunciation is not only about individual sounds. It also includes stress, rhythm and intonation. English is a stress-timed language, which means that some syllables are stronger and longer than others.
The IPA is a system of symbols used to represent sounds. Each symbol corresponds to one sound, not one letter.
You will see phonemic symbols between slashes, for example:
/ɪ/ as in sit
/iː/ as in seat
Learning the IPA helps you:
Pronounce new words correctly.
