Reflexive Pronouns

Los pronombres reflexivos myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves y themselves funcionan como complemento de la frase y se utilizan cuando el sujeto y el complemento de esta es el mismo.

• She only trusts herself (Solo confia en si misma.)

Pueden ir precedidos de una preposición.

• Paul always cooks for himself as he lives alone. (Paul siempre cocina para si mismo, pues vive solo.)

Tambien se usan para dar enfasis y, en este caso, se llaman pronombres enfáticos. Con esta función, suelen ir colocados al final de la oración o justo después del sujeto y se pueden omitir sin que cambie el significado de la frase.

• Look at this scarf! I knitted it (myself). (¡Mira esta bufanda! La teji yo (misma) .)

• Queen Elizabeth II (herself) gave the speech. (La (misma) reina Isabel II dio el discurso.)
