Awaken the Spirit will explore the concept of Spiritualty of Ecology and the Environment.
It is based on the notion that life choices made by individuals have an impact on the environment, people and subsequent generations. Pope Francis reminds us that the natural world and all living things have inherent value and reveal God’s gentle and creative love. You will research and learn about scripture, habitats, ecosystems, local flora and fauna (plants and animals) and biodiversity. You will analyse what can be done today to create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future and how the Catholic religion and other religions and philosophies play a part this process.
To support your learning, you will reach out to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung First Nations People to gain a better understanding of their sacred connection to the land and water ways of Australia, particularly here in Sunshine West. To delve into deep learning about Sacred ecology, you will research an authentic project-based assignment that incorporates faith, Biology and Env Science. You will also further your knowledge of Pope Francis’ Lauduato Si Goals and attend a cross curricular excursion to see the natural world firsthand. To add to these learnings, you will explore how science and religion have been connected throughout history and continue to do so today and hence, give you a sense of how you can Awaken the Spirit within Creation.
