The unit covers key events in American history from early settlement to the 1960s. During the semester students investigate the process of Reconstruction in the American south and consider how much life improved for African Americans after Emancipation. They look at the experiences of immigrants, 1920s boom years, the Great Depression, the Dustbowl, the Kennedy and Johnson presidencies and the Civil Rights Movement.
There really aren’t any prerequisites, but it is recommended that you have taken a History elective like Global History, and/or Civics electives like Democracy Matters, Make A Difference, Call Of Duty and/or legal electives like Are You Old Enough, Law and Order. Really any of the Year 9/10 Humanities electives would provide a great base for American History, but of course not specifically required.
