“My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand, to smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.”
Ever wondered why English teachers are so obsessed with Shakespeare (a 500-year-old dead white dude)?
Are you interested in themes of jealousy, loyalty, betrayal, romantic love, male friendship, sex, violence and misogyny?
Do you want to impress your friends by being able to code switch into another dialect of English at parties?
Do you want to spice up your Valentine's Day by writing love poetry in Shakespearean style?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, then “Shakespeare in Love” is the English elective for you! In this unit you discover why the works of Shakespeare are still loved and studied even though he’s been dead for 500 years. You will look at Shakespearean language, learn to code switch, examine the beauty of Shakespeare’s love sonnets, explore snippets from other plays followed by an in-depth study of Romeo and Juliet or another play depending on interest.
