High Performance Sports is a practical based subject, focusing on elite sports and the various factors that can influence individual and team performance. In this elective, students will deepen their understanding and theoretical knowledge on various factors that can enhance or inhibit optimal performance, both in individual and team sports. This subject provides the opportunity for students to refine complex, sports specific skills through gameplay awareness, analysing gameplay footage and hypothesising the effects of specific movements and set plays.
Students will also showcase their leadership and coaching abilities through peer demonstrations and providing instructional coaching to a range of participants. Other key concepts in this subject will include skill acquisition and refinement, technological developments in sport, performance enhancing agents and the use of sports psychology. Through the development of complex movement skills and learning concepts to enhance gameplay in a broad range of sports and outdoor activities, students will be well equipped when transitioning, or accelerating into VCE Health and Physical Education subjects.
It is suggested that students complete Team Sports or Fitness Education before enrolling into High Performance Sports.
