Have you ever wondered why wars start? Are you interested in strategy and the ‘theatre’ of war? Do you want to understand the impact of wars on soldiers, as well as civilians? This unit explores Australia’s involvement in WW1 and WW2 and how those wars shaped us as a nation. You will investigate why wars start, the key people, places of importance, the nature of warfare (strategies, weapons), the role of women in war and the impacts of the wars locally and globally. You will also explore the poetry and art that was created during the war and research topics like the Gallipoli Campaign, The Battle of the Somme, The Holocaust and the use of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima.
