During the fall of 2024, I completed my student teaching experience. My first placement was at Becker Elementary in Waterloo, Iowa. My placement was in a kindergarten and first grade special education room. My second placement was in a 4th grade classroom at Hudson Elementary in Hudson, Iowa.
Throughout my time at both placements, I gained invaluable experience in effectively teaching engaging lessons, building meaningful relationships with students and staff, providing adequate support and feedback, managing a classroom, creating routines and procedures, and communicating with parents and guardians. I also learned how to properly use data to drive instruction. I frequently experimented with new strategies and was able to reflect on their effectiveness. Each opportunity was unique, but both contributed significantly to shaping me into the strong educator I aspire to be.
Iowa Teaching Standards
Throughout my student teaching experience, I have compiled a list of artifacts fitting each of the eight Iowa Teaching Standards. Click the link below to view each Iowa Teaching Standard, along with artifacts demonstrating my abilities and skills to meet each one.
Assessment of Student Learning
During my first placement at Becker Elementary, I maintained a student data binder where I consistently monitored the progress of students on their IEP goals. This binder served as a comprehensive tool to track each student's growth, allowing me to collect and analyze data multiple times per week. By doing so, I was able to make informed decisions and tailor my instruction to better meet each student's needs. This practice not only helped me stay organized but also ensured that I provided the necessary support to help my students achieve their goals.
