Classmate Carter Moore and I collaborated to create this social studies lesson plan in which we implemented the before reading strategy, free recall. This collaboration enabled us to design a lesson that engages students in actively recalling information before diving into the reading material. By incorporating this strategy, we hope to enhance students' comprehension and critical thinking skills by encouraging them to recall prior knowledge and make connections to the upcoming content. I learned a lot about before reading strategies that I can use in my future classroom from this assignment. In the future, I plan to incorporate structured literacy formats when teaching other phonics skills to help students build a solid foundation in reading and writing.
