I created a Substitute Classroom Guide that includes everything a substitute would need in the event of my absence from the classroom. The guide is not only filled with lessons that are aligned with standards, but also includes important details like classroom layout, emergency materials and procedures, student photos in a seating chart, helpful information about specific students, daily schedule, and contact details of peer neighbors and school faculty. The guide wraps up with a reflection section for the substitute to share their experience and let me know how things went that day. It's a valuable opportunity for them to provide feedback and suggest any improvements or preparations that could have helped them succeed. Every substitute teacher in my classroom will always receive the same level of thorough planning and preparation. It's a way to ensure that they have everything they need to succeed and provide a seamless experience for the students.
