Our Centenary Year is now half way through and we have had the joint event with the Guides at Schopwick House which was a very special day. Then we had our Centenary event, when past leaders returned from as far afield as the Isle of Man and Felixstowe, we also had relatives of the first leader Jack Nash attending. Jack had been a Scout prior to the 1st World War, walking from Radlett to Elstree to join other Scouts. On his return from active service he had with another leader Charles Cuddiford started our group in 1919. Jack's daughter Jennifer cut our Anniversary cake. See more on this on our website and I have put some photos below. We would like to continue with events for the rest of the year but will need help from parents and supporters to run these.
On our leaders the picture is not so bright. The Scout Troop is growing well, with 4 regular leaders sharing the load. However, we need new volunteers in our younger sections in particular to ensure Cubs can run in September. The current leaders are willing to support new volunteers but are not able to maintain both with current numbers. The Beaver leaders have considered that if it helped new volunteers feel they had experience with them one could move up to Cubs and one stay in Beavers, but this would only happen if we had a few new assistant leaders and one new main leader. See more about this in our note from our outgoing Chair, who we are still looking for a replacement for.
We are getting all the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts together on Tuesday 16 July for a social evening. This replaces all section meetings that week. Further info below
We are also from September planning to introduce payment for Beavers and Cubs through Online Scout Manager, which we had been trialling with the Scouts this year. This will allow for online payments for subs using direct debit payments. We will be setting it up across the summer, so all Beaver and Cubs parents will expect emails from this setting up their account.
