Celebrating the 57th Anniversary of the Independence Day and the 33rd Anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius 

The University of Mauritius organised its Flag Raising Ceremony on Tuesday 11 March 2025 at 11.30 hrs in the Paul Octave Wiehé Auditorium to celebrate the 57th Anniversary of the Independence Day and the 33rd Anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius.

The ceremony started with a speech by Mr Tirouvalen RUNGIAH, the President of the Students’ Union, which was followed by cultural items presented by some UoM staff and students.

Dr Vijaya TEELOCK, GOSK, Historian and former UoM Associate Professor, made a presentation on “­The Making of Mauritian Identity – From Dutch Mauritius to Independent Mauritius”

It was a pleasure for me to address our staff and students on this highly auspicious occasion of our National Day. 

National Anthem and Flag Raising

After the Flag Raising, our Chief Guest­, the Honourable Hambyrajen NARSINGHEN, Junior Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade and also a former academic staff of the UoM, read the message of the Honourable Prime Minister and thereafter delivered his address.

The Flag Raising Ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks from the Master of Ceremony, Dr Yannick Bosquet.
