The longstanding partnership  between the University of Mauritius and Université de Bordeaux moved to a new level of collaboration with the plan to offer specialist programmes and the training of specialist doctors in Mauritius itself. 

It is in this context that a Signing Ceremony was organised at the University of Mauritius on 04 October 2023 for the signature of an Accord Cadre de Coopération Franco-Mauricienne between the Ministry of Health & Wellness, the University of Mauritius  and Université de Bordeaux & Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Bordeaux and Université de la Réunion & Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de la Réunion.

The Honourable Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, GCSK, Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology and Dr The Honourable Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal, Minister of Health and Wellness launched the Specialised Postgraduate Training in the Medical Field in the presence of H.E. Mr Frédéric Bontems, French Ambassador in Mauritius and other eminent personalities.
