Distinguished guests,

Dr Matthew Gerdin, Ms Kevina Poolay Mootien, ladies and gentlemen, good morning. It is a pleasure for me to speak at this half day conference on human trafficking organised by the Department of Law.

What is human trafficking? Well, it is described by the U.S. Department of State as the "act of recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing or obtaining a person for compelled labor or commercial sex acts through the use of force, fraud or coercion." It is nothing else than modern slavery.
