OVERLOAD POLICY

The Overload Policy is governed by the Office of the Vice Provost, Faculty Affairs (VPFA) and is outlined in the collective agreements for Toronto Metropolitan University Faculty Association (TFA) and Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Unit 1 teaching staff. Memorandum of Understanding 12 for TFA and Letter of Understanding 1 for Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Unit 1 members outline the respective policies on overload. 

The Overload Policy also applies to all teaching across the University (day courses, undergrad courses, graduate courses AND Chang courses including Distance Education.  

Update -  As of April 2025, the current guidelines regarding TFA Overload appointments can be found in the following communication from the VPFA. 

Department Administrators (DA) process overloads as follows:

1. CUPE, Unit 1 Contract Lecturers: in eAppoint at a rate of $7,000 per section

2. TFA Faculty Members: Using the Overload Appointment Form at a rate of $8,300 per section.
