Infinite Stairs

Infinite Stairs

The subject of this image is two staircases layered over each other. The setting of this image is a school. To create this image I layered two negatives on top of each other in the enlarger. I then exposed the paper for one minute at F11. I wanted to create this image because I thought that the layers of stairs would look cool and make someone look at the image longer than 3 seconds.A composition rule in this image is leading lines. There are many leading lines throughout the image. By layering the two stairs negatives, you get multiple depths that contain their own leading lines. When they are put together it makes you look at the image as a whole. Another composition rule in this image is sharp focus. The whole image is in focus because both images contained lots of detail. I wanted the viewer to be able to see the whole image and not just pieces of the image. This image is telling the story that life's a climb and most of the time you are going up, but sometimes you are going down. The sets of stairs show two different directions. One set is going up while the other is going down. This represents the ups and downs of life and the struggle to get where you want to be.
