Love

Family

The subject of this image is a boy running and a group of people standing, staring off camera. The setting of this image is a frozen lake. To create this image I took a photo of my family when they weren’t paying attention. To edit this image I made it black and white. I then upped the contrast and decreased the exposure just a bit. This helped to darken the highlights in the image, but still kept the snow very white. An element of design in this image is space. There is a lot of blank space in the sky as well as the foreground where there is not much detail or even color. A principle of design in this image is emphasis. By adding in the white and erasing it on the main subject emphasis is created and leads your eye to the subject.A composition rule used in this image is low horizon line. The horizon line in this image is about a third of the way up the image. Even though the horizon line is low the background objects are tall and large which creates the effect that horizon line is higher. This image also contains grouping. This is shown in the group of people standing together. This group helps to balance out the image. Even though a large group of people outweighs one person, by having the group further back it creates balance. When I started this project I wanted to create an image of a person sitting next to a dog. I changed to this image when I was ice fishing with my family. This image shows love because family will love each other no matter what. To me, this image shows love because we don’t really see family often but when we do it’s like we see them every day. That just shows the undeniable love that family has for each other. If I were to do this project again I would try to take the image with the dog just to see how it came out. For this image, I would use a higher shutter speed so the small details of the image were more distinct.
