The subject of my image is my friend, Emmie. The setting of the image is the science wing. To capture this image I stood behind a plant in the corner and had Emmie stand on the bench. An element I used in creating this image was space. By framing the image more to the right I created open space that helps the image to be brighter. A principle I used was pattern. The leaves in the foreground of the image frame the subject. The fact that there are multiples of them helps draw your attention to the subject.
The main technique in this image is silhouette lighting. I used the sun to create a dark based image with small pops of light and color. To do this I had Emmie stand in the way of the sun to block the light on her backside. A composition rule I used was the rule of thirds. I shifted the frame to the right so that you could see more of the background. I wanted more of the background because the setting is very dark and the foreground was very bright, so I used it to compensate for the darkness. My original plan was to take images using car headlights as a light source, but Emmie and I were walking around and I saw that the sun was shining in through the windows. I also noticed that it was a very dark area so I thought it would be a good setting.
I think the meaning behind this image is mystery. When using silhouette lighting you can create a mysterious image that leaves the viewer thinking, which is important in photography. To me this image shows that light can overcome darkness, but it can also create it.
To make my artwork stronger I would have made Emmie's body a little darker so you didn't get any information from the shape.
