Texture

Artist Statement

The subject of these images is the objects of nature with a few random object. The setting of this image was the area around L.L.Bean. These photographs were made by getting close to an object and framing the main focus to 1 side of the image. This artwork was composed because the patterns show an interesting perspective on objects. Most of the time you would just walk past these objects without a second thought, but by looking around you see these really interesting patterns. A specific element that helped make the images more effective was the use of bright colors. For example a few of the images highlight the color yellow. In doing this you get a happier or brighter feeling from the image. Another really important element in this body of work is texture. The whole collection was based around texture, so I tried to capture images where you could see the lines and contrast between similar objects.

Several different composition rules and techniques were used in composing these images. The main technique in these images is angle up which is used focus on the main subject of the image. Selective focus was used as a secondary technique to accentuate the purpose of the image. I also used a lot of grouping/repetition to highlight the patterns in the images. You can see this in all the images where the main subject is repeated multiple times. To make this image the images more effective edits were made to the color contrast and the lighting by increasing them both. I also cropped out the non-important parts of the images.

This body of work demonstrates a sense of belonging and purpose. When using repetition you feel as though all the objects belong together, which makes the viewer have a sense of belonging. It relate to my life because the objects are sort of like a family and they stick together. In the future I would like to use the natural lighting more to brighten my images. I also think I could play around with focus more to make my images more effective.
