Thoughtful Portrait

Love

The subject of this image is my dad hugging my dog. To edit this image I put the original image into photoshop and overlaid a pale blue image, changing the opacity to 15%. I did this because the image was very yellow and wanted it to have a brighter, bluer tone. Then I increased the light and increased the contrast. After that, I used a black and white gradient map to make the image black and white. Lastly, I clone-stamped the wall and the trim in the image because it was a little splotchy. A composition technique in this image is informal balance. This is shown because the subject of the image is positioned to the left side of the image and there is no weight on the right side. Another composition technique is sharp focus. By having the whole image in focus you can see both subjects and understand their connection. When first coming up with ideas for this project I wanted to have my mom and dad hugging, but my mom got home too late. I chose to take this photo instead because it shows love, just in a more pure state. This image shows the purest form of love: a dog and it’s owner. This particular image shows the relationship that my dad and dog have with each other. They have known each other for 14 years. My dad has watched my dog grow from a puppy to an old man. My dad always says that he is his best-behaved kid. This is a thoughtful portrait because I feel like it sparks emotion and relatability in people.
